NASCUS Continues to Focus on Outreach Efforts

A special message from Mary Martha Fortney, President and CEO,
October 3, 2007

Our members come first at NASCUS. At recent business meetings, NASCUS leadership renewed its continued commitment to member outreach, via in-person meetings, conference calls and educational opportunities.

We recognize that constant dialogue with both regulator members and the Credit Union Advisory Council on the critical issues helps us better understand interests of our members and provide essential resources.

NASCUS continues to hold quarterly conference calls with regulators to provide updates on current issues. The calls provide opportunities for regulators to talk with each other and with NASCUS on regulatory organizational matters. They bring attention to critical issues and a “heads up” on forthcoming matters of interest. We also hold regional regulator meetings for more focused discussion with peers in the same geographic area.

In addition, annually NASCUS and NCUA co host the National Regulators Meeting and Interagency Dialogue. The 2008 National Regulators Meeting is April 13-15, 2008 in Tampa, Florida and the Interagency Dialogue takes place each year at the NASCUS State System Summit. The 2008 Summit is August 21-23, 2008 in Seattle, Washington. We encourage all regulators to participate in these valuable opportunities.

In the past two years, NASCUS has held nearly a dozen outreach meetings on a state and regional basis with the credit union community. NASCUS will continue this meeting series with the Credit Union Advisory Council this month on October 26 in Phoenix, Arizona. These sessions provide an outstanding opportunity for NASCUS, credit union leaders and the state leagues to exchange ideas, engage in dialogue and address challenges facing state credit unions and the dual chartering system. If you are interested in having a meeting in your area, please contact us. We will announce upcoming meetings on our website at www.nascus.org.

Recently, NASCUS began quarterly conference calls with our Credit Union Advisory Council. The calls feature updates on NASCUS initiatives and state credit union issues, and provide valuable time for credit union executive dialogue. Our next conference call will be held in the fourth quarter of this year, and will be announced to members on the NASCUS website and via email.

Additionally, NASCUS holds a variety of educational sessions both in-person and online throughout the year. These are also great chances for interaction with other members and the credit union community. You can view our educational opportunities here.

Please don’t hesitate to contact NASCUS about our outreach efforts and how we can better serve your agency or credit union. Email me at marymartha@nascus.org or call (703) 528-8688.
