A special message from Mary Martha Fortney, President and CEO,
December 27, 2007
As we approach the end of the year and begin the new, I want to offer special thanks and sincere gratitude to those who work diligently to support the NASCUS mission of enhancing state credit union supervision and advocating for a safe and sound state credit union system. Too often we become so involved in the activities around us that we lose sight of those who volunteer their time, energy and assistance.
Heartfelt thanks to the NASCUS Regulator Board of Directors, NASCUS state regulator members, the Credit Union Executive Council, the NASCUS Credit Union Advisory Council members, Dual Chartering Benefactor members, and the volunteers serving on the NASCUS committees for all they have done in 2007!
NASCUS has been hard at work, made progress toward our goals and provided increased resources and educational opportunities for our members and the state credit union system. With the assistance of NASCUS state regulators and state-chartered credit unions, we worked tirelessly to respond to the request from Congress about how state-chartered credit unions use their tax-exempt status to serve members. In mid-December, NASCUS provided Congress with an objective report which shows that state-chartered credit unions are serving the members they are chartered to serve.
NASCUS continued to grow the NASCUS Accreditation Program by gaining increased recognition in the credit union system. We grew the NASCUS Examiner Certification Program which provides professional recognition of superior standards to state credit union regulators and examiners. We worked diligently to expand our membership resources this year, with additional online features including the redesigned web site for NASCUS. We continued to reinforce relationships with the National Credit Union Administration and restored the important NCUA-NASCUS state regulators national meetings. We also reinforced interaction with other federal agencies and with credit union system partners, including CUNA, the leagues, the World Council of Credit Unions, the National Credit Union Foundation, CUNA Mutual Group, NAFCU and others
