Don’t Miss the First NASCUS State System Summit

A special message
Mary Martha Fortney
from Mary Martha Fortney, President and CEO, March 27, 2006

Last year we celebrated NASCUS’ 40th anniversary at our annual conference and symposium in Chicago. The event was packed with riveting educational sessions and exciting networking activities. On behalf of the NASCUS and NASCUS Credit Union Advisory Council leadership, I invite you to find out why 100 percent of last year’s post conference survey respondents said they would highly recommend this NASCUS event to their peers. Discover the value for yourself by joining us for the first NASCUS State System Summit, August 10-12, 2006 at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott in Dana Point, California.

In 2006, the NASCUS annual conference and symposium is being presented as a State System Summit to identify the actions needed to preserve and strengthen the state system. This year, our sessions will focus on the most pressing challenges facing state regulators and state-chartered credit unions. During the Summit, credit union experts from across the nation will provide information and education on issues like taxation, the changing economy, documenting service to members, regulatory relief, disaster recovery and more.

We also planned a “ Summit within the Summit” --a chance for you and your peers to join the movement’s most astute leaders to develop solutions to ensure that the state credit union system continues to thrive in today’s financial services marketplace. The Summit will be the only annual gathering of the state system’s leaders in 2006; this is an invaluable opportunity to meet with your peers on common challenges.

General session and workshop agenda items scheduled to date include:

Once again, National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) national and regional management will join NASCUS regulators for the NASCUS/NCUA Interagency Dialogue. State regulators will also have the opportunity to discuss policy issues of importance in all states at a closed door NASCUS regulators-only session. For NASCUS Credit Union Advisory Council attendees we have planned the first “Council Issues Briefing” to provide a forum for discussion on the latest regulatory challenges and issues important to state credit unions.

NASCUS will deliver the most current information on trends and challenges facing the state credit union system. We promise that the Summit’s social activities will highlight the best in southern California. To register or for more information, follow this link to our web site’s Summit page. If you have any questions, please contact Jenny Champagne, NASCUS’ director of education, programs and events at (703) 528-5974 or by email at jenny@nascus.org.

We look forward to seeing you in Dana Point in August!
