NASCUS Credit Union Advisory Council Board Elects Cann and Tierney to Officer Seats

ARLINGTON, VAThe NASCUS Credit Union Advisory Council Board of Directors elected its officers on January 17, completing the leadership team for new NASCUS Credit Union Advisory Council Chairman Mendell Thompson, president and CEO of America’s Christian Credit Union in Glendora, California.

J. Parker Cann, president and CEO of Columbia Credit Union in Vancouver, Washington will serve as Chair-elect and Catherine Tierney, president of Community First Credit Union in Appleton, Wisconsin was elected to the Secretary position. The Credit Union Advisory Council Board of Directors is composed of 12 state credit union executives from across the country.

Cann has served on the Credit Union Advisory Council Board for two years and as president and CEO of Columbia Credit Union since May 2005. Tierney, a Credit Union Advisory Council Board Director since 2003, has led Community First Credit Union as its president since 1994. Cann previously served as Secretary of the Credit Union Advisory Council Board.

Thompson began his term as chairman of the Credit Union Advisory Council in December, following the retirement of chairman Jo Anne Fillwock formerly of Option 1 Credit Union in Lansing, Michigan. Mary McDonald, president and CEO of USA Credit Union in Troy, Michigan was appointed in late December to fill Fillwock’s unexpired term on the Credit Union Advisory Council Board.

“I am pleased that the Credit Union Advisory Council Board has filled the officer vacancies which resulted from the retirement of Jo Anne Fillwock,” said NASCUS President and CEO Mary Martha Fortney. “I am positive this group will continue the successful advocacy efforts for state-chartered credit unions and the preservation of dual chartering.”

Completing the Credit Union Advisory Council Board of Directors are Jim Blaine, State Employees Credit Union, NC; Linda Childs, Knoxville Postal Employees CU, TN; Bob Fouch, Corporate Central CU, WI; Mike Litzau, Sooper CU, CO; Gary Peterson, Financial Plus CU, IA; Richard Rice, Teachers CU, IN; Loren Rush, Universal 1 CU, OH; and Rick Schmidtke, Harborstone Credit Union, WA.

As advisors to NASCUS, the Credit Union Advisory Council is the only organization focused exclusively on preserving the dual chartering system and representing the interests of state-chartered credit unions. The Advisory Council is comprised of the CEOs of the most progressive and innovative state-chartered credit unions in the nation. The Advisory Council also includes NASCUS’ Dual Chartering Benefactor members, which are state credit union leagues, federal credit unions, law firms dedicated to credit unions, national credit union trade groups and credit union share insurers.
