Reynolds to Fill NASCUS Chairman-elect Position; Roberts Resigns from NASCUS Board of Directors

ARLINGTON, Va. — NASCUS announced changes in its association leadership today. Long-time, dedicated member of the NASCUS Board Ken Roberts (OH) has resigned as a Director and as Chairman-elect of the NASCUS Board of Directors. On May 11, the NASCUS Board elected George Reynolds, senior deputy commissioner of the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance, to follow Roberts and serve as the NASCUS Chairman-elect.

NASCUS Chairman Linda Jekel (WA) also appointed existing Board member Beth Dooley, deputy commissioner of the California Department of Financial Institutions, to fill Roberts’ unexpired term which ends August 2008.

“NASCUS is excited to welcome George as the association’s new Chairman-elect. He will make a great chairman,” said Jekel, director of credit unions for Washington state. “Though, we will miss Ken’s involvement in NASCUS. He made tremendous contributions to our organization. His regulatory and examination expertise was a great resource for the NASCUS Board, and we thank Ken for his commitment to NASCUS and its mission.”

Roberts, the acting deputy superintendent of financial institutions for the Ohio Department of Commerce, has served on the NASCUS Board for more than five years. He was elected to the NASCUS Board of Directors in 2002 and served as Secretary/Treasurer from 2005-2006, and as Chairman-elect since January 2006.

Reynolds was elected to the NASCUS Board of Directors in August 2006. He currently serves as chairman of the NASCUS Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Committee and was a past chairman of the NASCUS Audit Committee. Reynolds will become Chairman in August 2007 when current Chairman Jekel’s term ends. He will be sworn-in at the NASCUS Annual Meeting on August 10 during the 2007 State System Summit in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, August 9-11, 2007.

“As an active participant in NASCUS over the years and recognized state regulator, George will excel as NASCUS chairman. We look forward to his term,” said NASCUS President and CEO Mary Martha Fortney. “In addition, I would also like to thank Ken for his dedication to NASCUS and to the state-chartered credit union system. He was committed to NASCUS and our efforts to preserve dual chartering and enhance the safety and soundness of state credit unions.”
