ARLINGTON, Va. — NASCUS is excited to announce additions to its outstanding 2007 State System Summit speaker line-up. The Summit will take place August 9-11, 2007 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the Harbor Beach Marriott.
Capital expert Dr. William Jackson, Professor of Finance and Management at the University of Alabama, is joining NASCUS at the Summit to discuss the pros and cons of capital reform. Before joining the faculty at the University of Alabama, Dr. Jackson was a financial economist and associate policy advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.
Also just added to the agenda, a panel of today’s credit union system leaders will address how credit unions can continue to play a critical role in the financial lives of all Americans. These elected leaders of the nation’s credit union organizations will share their vision of credit unions’ role in the future of the American financial services system. Panelists include:
• NASCUS Chairman-elect George Reynolds, senior deputy commissioner, Georgia Department of Banking and Finance;
• NASCUS Credit Union Advisory Council Chairman Mendell Thompson, president/CEO, America’s Christian Credit Union, Glendora, CA;
• Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Chairman Allan Kemp McMorris, president/CEO, Oakland County Credit Union, Waterford, MI;
• NAFCU Chairman John Milazzo, president/CEO, Campus FCU, Baton Rouge, LA; and
• AACUL Chairman Rick Pillow, president, Virginia Credit Union League.
At this year’s Summit, speakers will address issues critical to the continued success of the state credit union system including managing the increasingly complex credit union balance sheet; legal challenges facing the state system; capital reform; small credit union issues; Check 21’s impact on credit unions; emerging technology issues; federal preemption; and the status of the unrelated business income tax (UBIT), among other topics.
