Fortney Elected as President of Women in Housing and Finance

Washington, D.C. — NASCUS President and CEO Mary Martha Fortney was elected as President of the Women in Housing and Finance (WHF) Board of Directors. She was sworn in at WHF’s Annual Meeting today for a two-year term on the Board. As the new WHF president, Fortney introduced U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, who gave remarks at today’s WHF Annual Meeting.

Fortney thanked Secretary Paulson for his work to address the current problems in the housing and financial services industry. “WHF greatly appreciates Secretary Paulson's leadership throughout these incredibly challenging times for housing and financial services in our nation,” said Fortney. “His efforts to address the housing crisis through the HOPE NOW Alliance have been critical to ensure the focus remains on preventable foreclosures and the preservation of homeownership.”

Fortney has been actively involved with WHF for more than eight years. Fortney served on the WHF Board of Directors for three terms. She most recently served President-elect and Vice President and also was the Treasurer for the WHF Foundation Board of Directors. The WHF Foundation offers programs and sponsors events to fulfill its mission and help women and families in the Washington, D.C. area with guidance on housing and finance.

“I am honored to serve as President of WHF and to be involved with such a great organization doing fantastic work to promote women in the fields of housing and financial services,” said Fortney. “I am excited about my term as President and look forward to contributing to WHF’s mission.”
