New NCUA Chairman Michael Fryzel to Address NASCUS State System Summit

ARLINGTON, Va. — NASCUS is pleased to announce that Michael Fryzel, new National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Chairman, will address NASCUS State System Summit attendees on August 21 in Seattle, Washington.

As a former state regulator, Fryzel’s remarks will be of great interest to the Summit’s state regulatory and credit union audience. He led the Illinois Department of Financial Institutions for seven years in the 1980s. He was sworn in as NCUA Chairman on July 29, following JoAnn Johnson who served as Chairman since 2004.

“NASCUS is excited to welcome Mr. Fryzel to the Summit and to the state credit union regulatory and credit union community,” said NASCUS President and CEO Mary Martha Fortney. “NASCUS and state regulators look forward to the opportunity to reintroduce Mr. Fryzel to the state credit union system and to continue the positive and cooperative state and federal regulator relationship.”

Also just added to the Summit agenda, Paul Hazen, president of the National Cooperative Business Association, will lead a session on capital reform from the co-op movement perspective. In addition, NASCUS scheduled a bonus session August 23 on compliance with the FACT Act’s Red Flags provisions. During this session, Kevin Byrne, senior compliance consultant with Wolters Kluwers, will walk credit unions through some practical steps they can take to meet the November 1 compliance deadline.
