May 2 Deadline Approaching for GETS Applicants in Hurricane Regions

April 22, 2008 - As a member of the U.S. Treasury’s Financial and Banking Information Infrastructure Committee (FBIIC), NASCUS is participating in a pilot program of the Government Emergency Telecommunications Service (GETS) in order to foster disaster preparedness in the hurricane region. The deadline for application is May 2, 2008.

The GETS program, offered by the Department of Homeland Security’s National Communications System (NCS), is an important resource for the financial sector in maintaining communications resiliency during any type of disruption. GETS is a nationwide priority telecommunications service intended for use in a crisis, disaster, or other emergency, when the probability of completing a phone call has significantly decreased. The GETS program has proved critical for disaster recovery and business continuity for the financial services sector.

The pilot program is primarily focused on financial organizations in the hurricane regions and extends through the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, as well as Washington, D.C.

If you are a state-chartered credit union in the above states, NASCUS encourages you to apply for a GETS card. GETS cards are granted to financial institutions based on a number of factors including location, proximity to other critical infrastructures and financial institutions as well as additional criteria. Apply and read more about GETS at this link.
