Nov. 1, 2010 — NASCUS President and CEO Mary Martha Fortney was part of the faculty at the recent American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Conference on Credit Unions.

Fortney's presentation titled the "Shifting Regulatory Landscape: The View from the States" provided attendees with an overview of hot regulatory and legislative topics from the perspective of state regulators and state-chartered credit unions.

During the presentation, Fortney discussed regulatory areas of scrutiny: third party due diligence, interest rate and concentration risk as well as state specific issues such as unrelated business income tax (UBIT). She also presented information on the Dodd-Frank Act's impact on the state credit union system.

Further, Fortney gave a preview of other areas to watch including reverse mortgage issues and commercial real estate workouts.
