Colorado CU Directors Join NASCUS for Directors College

Oct. 17, 2011 - NASCUS, along with the Colorado Division of Financial Services hosted the first annual Colorado Directors College at Denver Community Credit Union on Oct. 6. Close to 70 directors and several credit union management attended the training event.

Colorado's Division of Financial Services Commissioner Chris Myklebust began the day with a session on the regulatory expectations of a director. Next, Sheila Balzer presented a session on financial literacy for directors and popular credit union system expert Bob Hoel followed with a presentation on shared strategies on adding value as a director. Heather Line, Compliance Guru at the Utah Credit Union Association closed the day with an update on the latest in consumer compliance issues facing credit unions.

Since 2008, NASCUS has worked with state credit union regulatory agencies and state credit union leagues in Virginia, Washington, North Carolina, Michigan, Utah, Wisconsin, Texas, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Georgia, Illinois, Colorado and Missouri to provide regulatory, compliance and board education from the regulator's perspective to board of directors, other credit union volunteers and credit union management. 

The first Colorado Directors College was well received by attendees. Many asked “When are you coming back? When is the next NASCUS Board of Directors College in my state?” NASCUS thanks Denver Community Credit Union, the Colorado Division of Financial Services and the Mountain West Credit Union Association for their help in making this day a success.
