Nov. 4, 2011 - NASCUS Chairman Orla Beth Peck (UT) brought together several state credit union regulators from the southeastern part of the country in Atlanta on Oct. 31 for another of the ongoing Regional Regulator meetings held by NASCUS. The Regional Meetings provide NASCUS state regulators an opportunity to meet with the NASCUS Chairman to discuss issues concerning oversight, examination, and the credit union system in a smaller setting. Regulators from West Virginia, Alabama, Louisiana ,Georgia, Mississippi and Utah participated in the Atlanta meeting.
During the meeting, participants discussed the economic conditions in their states and the corresponding effects on their financial institutions. Issues related to examination and supervision and coordination with the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) were also discussed, as were published or anticipated proposed rule changes affecting state-chartered federally insured credit unions. The group also discussed the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's (CFPB) examination manual and compliance related issues in their states. The meeting also provided an opportunity for an exchange of best practices between the states.
