NASCUS Congratulates McWatters on Taking Oath of Office

August 26, 2014 Mark McWatters took the oath of office today and joined the board of the National Credit Union Administration.

NCUA Board member Michael E. Fryzel administered the oath of office to McWatters at the swearing-in ceremony, which took place in the Dallas district office of Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, and included a ceremonial oath administered by Hensarling.

The administration of the oath was Fryzel’s last official action as an NCUA Board member. Fryzel’s Board term officially expired Aug. 2, 2013; he has been serving on the NCUA Board since July 2008.

“We congratulate Mr. McWatters on taking the oath of office today, and we look forward to working with him to ease regulatory burden on financial institutions, and to preserve the dual-chartering system,” said NASCUS President and CEO Mary Martha Fortney.

McWatters, prior to joining the NCUA Board, served as the assistant dean for graduate programs and an adjunct professor at the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. He was a member of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) Congressional Oversight Panel in Washington from 2009-2011, and former counsel to Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas). McWatters was nominated to the NCUA Board on Dec. 17, 2013, by President Barack Obama.
