Statement from NASCUS on BECU's Gary Oakland and New BECU President Selection

Arlington, Va. —On Dec. 20, it was announced that Benson Porter would follow Gary Oakland as President and CEO of BECU in Seattle, Washington. Porter will begin the role in April 2012.

NASCUS would like to take this opportunity to both welcome Porter and express gratitude for Oakland's lasting contributions to NASCUS' Credit Union Advisory Council and the state credit union system. Oakland was instrumental in the development of NASCUS' Credit Union Advisory Council and later served as its Chairman and as a director for many years.

“As one of the founders of the NASCUS Credit Union Advisory Council, Gary was a strong believer in the benefits of a forum where state credit unions and state regulators could work together toward the shared interests of the state credit union system," said NASCUS President and CEO Mary Martha Fortney.

She continued, “I can confidently say that NASCUS and the Credit Union Advisory Council would not be what it is today without Gary's influence and dedication. His steadfast support of the NASCUS Credit Union Advisory Council and state regulators has made a lasting impact on NASCUS as an organization and on the greater credit union system. He proudly represented Washington credit unions and tirelessly supported the state charter during his distinguished career both as state and national credit union leader. NASCUS will always be grateful for Gary's many contributions to the growth of this organization."
