Consumer bureau leader outlines vision for agency

April 17, 2019 – Today, CFPB Director Kathleen L. Kraninger outlined her vision for the Bureau in a speech at the Bipartisan Policy Center. In her speech, Kraninger noted that she had embarked on a three-month listening tour and had heard from a vast number of stakeholders. The speech touched on the following topics:

  • Utilization of all tools to prevent consumer harm;
  • Empowering consumers and turning financial education into action;
  • Ensuring a culture of compliance through supervision;
  • Holding bad actors to account and deterrence through enforcement; and
  • Outcomes and transparency.

Kraninger also reiterated her commitment to engagement with the Bureau's stakeholders and vowed to ensure transparent processes, foster relationships and communication, value the expertise that others bring, and support productive public discourse.

She further announced that CFPB will convene a symposia series over the coming year on a variety of topics related to the Bureau's mission.  The first topic for the series will be around clarifying the meaning of abusive acts or practices under Section 1031 of the Dodd-Frank Act.
